“Adopt a Spot” Planting in Lover’s Retreat

28th Nov 2019

This morning our Eco Council travelled to Lover’s Retreat, Omagh. We met with Julie and Natasha from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council who provided us with Bluebell bulbs for planting in the area. The pupils really enjoyed this activity and were each provided with gloves, a shovel and bulbs to do their own planting. We also took a walk along the river walkway and picked up any litter that we seen in the area. We collected half a bin liner bag of rubbish and  the council provided us with hi-vis vests and litter pickers for this activity. As part of the “Adopt a Spot” scheme we are taking part in, we will visit Lover’s Retreat 4 times a year to litter pick and make sure the area is kept clean and today. Julie has a wealth of knowledge and showed the pupils bat boxes, bird boxes and explained the different animals, plant and tree species in the area. We were also lucky to have seen a big Heron flying along the river! We look forward to coming  back in the spring to see if our bluebells have began to grow! Thanks also to Julie for giving us some bluebell bulbs to plant in school.
